CardFive can print cards
in plastic, teslin, normal or special papers (like photo paper for example).
Its development has been done with plastic cards in mind, a major attention has
been given to plastic card specific printers.
Some plastic card printers
manufacturers and links to their web sites : Fargo, Eltron-Privilege, Digicard,
APPrint, Datacard, MagicCard, Nisca, Atlantech.
CardFive explores in most of
these cases all the printers functionality, like managing the encoders,
handling the special ribbons as necessary, smoothing color gradients,
optimizing the download speed and controlling errors, based on printers
response. That's what we call DCL (Direct command language), in which we do not
recur to Windows Printer drivers but rather access and dialog to the printer
directly.
On the other hand, CardFive also
handles card printing via Windows drivers. This is particularly adapted when
managing page printers like Inkjet or Laser printers. Then, CardFive divides
cards along the page as possible and prints a page containing many cards.
Printing via Windows Drivers is also suitable for plastic card specific
printers in which there is no DCL available. In this case, we still manage
encoders by issuing special commands to the driver.
Basically, CardFive can print in
any printer but major advantages exist on printers which we have been
developing DCL's.
